From Vík, you ride a high-clearance Super Jeep across Mýrdalssandur to Mýrdalsjökull, then walk with crampons into the changing Katla Ice Cave. Guides such as Helgi, Peter, Alex, and Kamil add geology, humor, and careful support. Some options include Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss.

“Helgi, our tour guide was the highlight of this trip! The cave its self was cool but underwhelming compared to the expectations. It is essentially a room you can walk in and turn around in. Helgi was so knowledgeable and had the greatest sense of humor. He made our excursion well worth the money! We learned so much about the history of Iceland and Katla, all while laughing and making sure we had a great day. Couldn’t recommend Helgi enough!”

“This is a must-do if you're in Iceland. The company was Troll Expeditions, our guide was Stefan, our tour was the "Katla Ice Caves and Super Jeep Tour". We met in Vik and rode went off-road through lava fields in a "super jeep", aka custom Ford van with a huge lift and a really cool built-in tire pressure adjustment system. Stefan was a terrific guide, narrating our ride to the glacier with scientific information and humor. When we disembarked from the van the sight of the Katla Glacier was absolutely breathtaking. If you're from USA and have been to the Grand Canyon, remember how that first view felt! Stefan instructed…”

Alex was absolutely phenomenal and so great with our kids; we all absolutely adored him. He was a wealth of knowledge and had so many interesting things to share about Iceland and Katla. We felt so lucky and grateful to have him as our guide! Would definitely recommend.”

“Our driver/guide “Snyper” was wonderful! He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout the entire excursion. This is a newer company so we were lucky to have been on the tour ourselves. It turned out being a private tour which really capped off our Iceland experience. We were the only ones in the GlacierIce Cave which was totally awesome. He also made additional stops which was not on the itinerary which made us feel like VIPs. Cruise port pickup was timely. The vehicle was very comfortable. Food/Toilet breaks very convenient.”

“I was 6months out of my 3rd leg surgery so the hike was a little more challenging, but I was definitely able to do it with effort. The hike isn't flat so you have to be ok to go up and down inclines and through lava hills. You also need to be ok with maybe like 1.5 hours of fast, off-roading. There is also a sense of urgency throughout the day. So it does feel very fast-paced. If all of that sounds ok to you, then it is totally worth it! If you are looking for breathtaking beauty and adventure then this is for you!!!! I saw and felt things…”
